What do you guys think are the brands with the strongest visual recognition. I'm not talking about the logo, more the general look and feel.
to me when I think of Orange I think it's very easily recognisable, same goes for easyjet. Not necessarily nice looking but very recognisable.
what are some others?

coca cola - the red and swash
ibm - the blue
mcdonald -the M, the smell, the red and yellow
levi's - the red and tag

Apple, white and grey backgrounds and literal iconic logo.

there's a difference between strongest visual recognition and most known companies IMO.

Virgin.
Guinness.I don't find apple at all strong. White and grey could be just about anybody who is unwilling to dedicate themselves.

I think the is a strong difference between a strong brand and one that is plastered in front of our eyes 5-10 times a day so we associate that font with that brand. a la your example

I think look and feel will change according to campaigns, but are you after consistent brand application? It is a good argument for having a good strong logo.

Ikeas logo does a good job.
It maches its colors with its birthplace,
and, imho, matches its form to its products.

think to be clever we should look at the complete brand material :
logo, stationary applicaiton on vehicules, packaging etc...nike logo is recognable justbecause it's nike and we see it everywhere since we're 5 years old. same goes for coca-cola or Mcdonald's etc...
the strongest branding could be your local bookstore, known by a very few people.

This could actually make for an interesting variant on the friday PSB/ guess the movie still quizzes - photoshop out the logo on an ad and see if you can still tell what it is. Or something. Anyway.
Innocent drinks.
Burberry :)
Cohibahttp://www.bigfish.co.uk/ are quite strong here, imo.
I'd also add in Muji, curiously.- Actually- fuck Innocent, I'd forgotten they've just raped the life out of their brand, the fuckwits.Nairn
