AHAHAH.
Why is Police written in English? "Because "THE PIGS" didn't quite jive with Islamic faith...
- Corvo20
^ someone in that forum says that picture is not taken in Tehran - which would solve the mystery.

This rebellion seems to me a social phenomenon that regards itself by technology as existing it therefore has accomplished everything it can.
So what if the whole world is watching? Novel for Persians to be on the street and at the center of what appears to be the world's attention but unled, unorganized, and not chaotic is no way to transform the political landscape. This must be the assessment of the regime.- decembrist-lite********
- I counter by saying that it's apparent lack of leadership is an asset in the short termTheBlueOne
- The state is using the same technology to locate leaders and instigators...TheBlueOne
- ..while spreading that out and giving no targets the State is limited in it's responseTheBlueOne
- And it is. That's why Ahmedinejad is carrying on with his visit to Russia.Corvo2
- ..except to using massive force, which would be a delegitimizing move...TheBlueOne
- nilsnihil your cynicism is keeping you from seeing the whole picture...TheBlueOne
- although a healthy cynicism serves one well in such thingsTheBlueOne
- and as then will radicalize those disappointed with this failure into revolutionaries.********
- if I were cynical i'd have said the whole thing was permitted , even choreographed by the regime********
- ..and you're not THAT cynical :)TheBlueOne
- as a means of deflating hopes of change as understood in the western media.********
- no I'm not. It must be an amazing feeling on the ground there. So many so hopeful. But election has happened, the results won't change.********
- results won't change.********
- Every person whose picture was taken will be questioned.********

Let's also add to the debate that Mr. Mousavi is no way near to being a democrat (although he speaks of it now) and decidedly not an humanist.
- this is a key point lost in the intoxication of the mob********
- but then the PMI were and remain terrorists. They helped the revolution happened and were surprised when they were devoured by it.********
- devoured by it.********

A developer that works beside me at work is Iranian. It's been really interesting getting his perspective on this, and hearing comments from his family who are in Iran.

It's a more cynical take than the ones above, but the author does seem to know Iranian politics better than most Western journalists
- The article I linked above made the 180 degree opposite assessment of Rafsanjani.TheBlueOne
- ..that this is hardly the endgame, but rather stage one for him in this process.TheBlueOne
- Yeah who knows? This piece was written before the protests on Monday.ukit

I don't see this ending well either way.
Either Khameni/ Ahmadinejad faction holds tight until the protesters give up, and then crack down on the dissenters and probably never hold another election again
Or...
The Mousavi/ Rafsanjani faction succeeds in knocking Khameni off his throne and Iran moves to a new governing coalition (presumably more liberal and capitalist). But then what happens with the militias and huge security apparatus that is loyal to Ahmadinejad?
