What is the most basic code to embed a SWF in a webpage? Im not a developer so I just use Dreamweaver, but of course it adds all this crap to the code.

And one other question. I'm on the mac. How do I find out the physical dimensions of a SWF? I know on the PC you can just open it in Flash and it tells you, but it doesnt on the mac. I tried get info but nothing there.
- Anyone know how to do this?CygnusZero4
- Open it in Flash.NONEIS
- Doesnt work. Buy a mac and you would know this.CygnusZero4

- You haven't downloaded it yet, have you, it's not an app.NONEIS
- Doesnt matter, that's not what I needed.CygnusZero4

Download the AIR app, makes it real easy.

3 things, you will receive zero plugin detection with this method, people in IE will be forced to click the active x tab in order to initiate your content, and it's not valid HTML. SO results in about 3 more lines of code + 1 js file, and while it may seem more complex, it's the right choice for all situations.

SWFObject 2.2 is out as well, get it

if you can't be bothered with swfObject and you should, it's a peace of piss with examples to download with it., you'd be better off leaving the Dreamweaver javascript there than a straight embed/object.
swfObject will easily let you add an alternate image or text/ player redirection etc as well as showing correctly across browsers and once you've done it once.....

guys obviously it works, and it's done, the simplest solution is best, it should just work and be easy. The END! Stop with this new stuff, timeline animations are still new.

btw, those separate javascript files aren't a good idea for super fast initial loading, multiple http requests and all. Why don't they stick in the javascript into the html file with their generator. Could put SWFAddress into the same file too.
Would that cause problems?
- You do realize, that there is only 1 js file required for this, right?NONEIS
- and it's 6kb...NONEIS
- last time i used SWFObj with SWFAdress there were 2 js files, might as well paste it all into 1Pupsipu
- and 6kb is no joke, add SWFAddress which is 15kb and it's 20kb + Flash file another 40?Pupsipu
- also I just checked the size of optimized swfObject js and its more like 10kbPupsipu
- i guess separate files are better for cachingPupsipu

use swfObject.
