Hi,
the other day I posted up my new portfolio for crit - http://www.beautifulformat.com
I got some good feedback and have changed my site accordingly (mainly changing the portfolio section to fit in with the rest of the site)
So would be great to get some more feedback from you guys, there is still some tweeking and I'm trying to get the loading time down too.
Cheersp.s I you were interested you can compare it to how it was at http://www.beautifulformat.com/B…

Nice updates. On another note, it would have been best to keep it in the original thread. Keep up the good work.

Great man; animation ties into the site very well... Good hustle!

Very nice work! Also great to see that you took consideration of ppl's feedback. That doesnt really happen that often.

Sick man, nice work!
You really dealt with the load times that plagued the earlier version, runs super fast now. I love how you incorporated the video, works perfect. Great stuff.

i like it. lots of personality.

hah..nice work, matt.

yea it's better. I think you should measure people's bandwith though and see if they're on slowish connections, then show them a more compressed version of that stop motion video.
I waited about 40 seconds for that to load, and I just wouldn't do that if it wasn't a forum thread critique request.
Another way to help with that would be to start showing the video when it's 60% loaded, so that by the time I click and it runs it's loaded enough.
- Yeah, the loading time is a bit of a problem. You mentioned to start playing it around 60%, is that easy to do in code using a preloader bar?

yes, nice work MAtt

i don't know if you're loading an flv or a bunch of images, if it is a bunch of images then you have a total number of images, a counter that is updated every time an image is loaded, and once more than half are loaded, you start playing them.
If it is an FLV then there are built in ways to determine when 60% is loaded

or if its some swf with a timeline animation with the images in the library, then split that swf into 2-3 parts..

it looks pretty good at a glance. wow that was a useless coment

looking much better... the load for the intro was painful though and crashed first time on my machine (ff on pc).

I would maybe put a skip intro button in there for the impatient.

Looks nice. Check the images and text match up throughout the portfolio section. Looks like there are a couple of fubars in there.

Also, in the portfolio section you should be able to load the first image and immediately preload all the rest... that would make the site seem a lot faster.
