Sans to pair with Mercury

I'm tired of using Gotham for my own stuff. I still love it, but every other designer in the world uses it for their own I.D.
I'm looking for a new sans to pair with Mercury. I'm considering flipping the typical sans/serif paradigm and using Mercury Display for heads and subheads, but then using a sans for text.
I want a sans that has text (old style) figures, so that rules out some obvious choices like Benton or Franklin Gothic.
I'm think Avenir Next, but not sure if it really works:

*this is in part b/c Avenir Next has text figures and small caps. The problem with Mercury is that it lacks text figures, that's the main impetus for the change.

Proxima Nova?
- Hmm... I like, but the lowercase a bothers me. Its counter is too round for my taste.Scotch_Roman
- I prefer more of a teardrop-shaped a.Scotch_Roman

- Yeah and it's got italic small caps, a rare feature...Scotch_Roman

Bliss Sans (the Caps version is OSF)

I'm torn. I like Avenir because it's strong geometry could work well with Mercury, which has more geometry to it than most serifs; but I also like the workman-like warmth of a grotesque like National. One of the problems with Gotham is that it looks so round next to Mercury, especially the lowercase.
