Cyber-shot spots

Yesterday I turned on my Sony Cyber-Shot (which is about a year old) and there's a black spot in the center which shows on photos, too. It's nothing on the lens and my friend said it looked like something that was on the aperture because it gets bigger or smaller depending on the amount of light that's let in. Anyone see this before and know how to resolve it? It looks like there's a bunch of issues with people who've experienced the same thing but I haven't found a resolution yet (other than buying a new one or taking it in to get it fixed by an expensive professional). Maybe that's what I need to do, though. :(
So maybe this thread is just a rant and a warning to QBN digital camera shoppers...

Well...technology is great but dust and particles are enemies.
On the canon G7 there was a similar problem with dust inside the lens, despite of being a compact, dust came into it.
So, it might be the case for you.
You could send it back to Sony in order to have it cleaned but, as the review says, another tiny dust particle could go into it.
To clean it, out of warranty it is not that expensive. However, I would buy a new one and keep the 'old' for just fun shots.
You might be lucky and Sony might say it is a manufacturing issue and give you a new one. Contact Sony HQ and go from there. Be aware that if your camera is checked, Sony engineer can see whether there are shock impact...[in case you dropped it] and damaged the inside.
Hope that helps.

150.00 to fix at Sony (provided they don't find evidence of consumer neglect) and two weeks. 65.00 and two days by Chrysler Camera (on 34th St). SO that's what I'm gonna do.
The Sony guy was like "I've never heard of this problem before."
"You're kidding me," I said, "There's hundreds of posts online about the same issue."
"It's probably another manufacturer, sir." he said.
"No, it's the same make and model. Are you sure you've never heard of this before?" I reply.
"No, never."

....all the same...ready to sell but no to fix....bastards.
Be firm but polite (really important).
Sony as a corporation CAN swap yr camera or fix it for free if proven that it is a manufacturing issue.
- dont buy sony if they cant be bothered....but might happen with any other compact : (Laurent

Okay this dot on the left is dirt that's 100% sure.
Maybe not a manufacturing fault....but a concern. the only way is either to photoshop or to have it cleaned (sensor)
Good luck.
Sony HQ should be more customer orientated. Shame though. Good products.
