It seems everyone with a legal question is usually greeted with at least one response like. "It will cost you more to hire a lawyer than you will get back." So what is the ripped off designer supposed to do?
Even with a contract it seems that the legal fees don't make it worth it to pursue. Is this usually the case?

That's the way our system works. What are you, socialist?

< insert quote about how being better legally prepared will cost you less in the long run >

If you take them to court, you sue them for the legal fees you incur as well. It's a closed loop...done and done.

^ that doesn't always happen

anyone that say's "it would cost more to hire a lawyer" is a fucking idiot. that's a technical term.
you get legal advice to start with. this will then dictate the next move. it's only the clueless here that start bandying around 'just sue 'em' statements.

and yes, the contracts are actually worth less than the paper they are printed on. contracts are only as strong as how hard you can afford to enforce them. if you get ripped off by coke then you're probably going to have to eat a shit sandwich.
