Do I need to be terrified?

Possibly but more importantly you stay informed and act..

"Politicians have failed to take on board the severe consequences of failing to cut world carbon emissions, according to Nicholas Stern, the economist commissioned by Gordon Brown to analyse the impact of climate change.
His stark warning about the potentially "devastating" consequences of global warming came as scientists issued a desperate plea last night for world leaders to curb greenhouse gas emissions or face an ecological and social disaster.
More than 2,500 climate experts from 80 countries at an emergency summit in Copenhagen said there is now "no excuse" for failing to act on global warming. A failure to agree strong carbon reduction targets at political negotiations this year could bring "abrupt or irreversible" shifts in climate that "will be very difficult for contemporary societies to cope with".
In a significant break from the scientific tradition not to comment directly on policy, the experts insisted politicians must stand up to "vested interests that increase emissions" and "build on a growing public desire for governments to act". They called for a "shift from ineffective governance and weak institutions to innovative leadership in government, the private sector and civil society"."

okay al gore now get on your jet and go home.
- designbot0
He was screaming the same "cry wolf" scenario back in the 90's. Saying that in 10 years if we didn't make drastic changes to reduce carbon pollution we would face the impending doom of Global Warming ( or "drastic consequences") ....here we are in 2009 and he's shouting the same old sensational BS. Go home Mr. Gore.

meanwhile at the Gore Mcmansion:
The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through free market policy solutions, issued a press release late Monday:
Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.
Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).
In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.
The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.
Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.
Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.
Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.
“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.
In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.”
- I would have posted it, thanks for showing how false he isGeorgesII

does the size of his house have a bearing on the science of climate change?
- No, It has bearing on the size of his tiny hypocritical brain.designbot
- that's not what I asked.lowimpakt
- It's a farce to say that there is a "science of climate change" as there is conflicting evidences and theories.designbot
- with all respect, "theories and evidence" is what science is all about.lowimpakt
- Right but it seemed like you were inferring there is some sort of mass consensus among science on climate change.designbot
- but there is as close to a full consensus on the science as you can get at this stage.lowimpakt
- but I am waiting for the day the thousands of scientists, scientific academies and peer reviewed journals are proved wrong.. seriously.lowimpakt
- proved wrong... seriouslylowimpakt
- I know for fact there is not...or at the very least there is a large number of scientists who are not on board with humans effecting climate change.designbot
- climate change. There's lots of resources online (some more credible than others) But I think you will be pretty amazed at what you find.designbot
- you find. I am convinced there is an agenda attached to this whole issue. Carbon Credits are going to mean big money.designbot
- But for some odd reason the news and media would have you believe that it's some sort of proven fact....arghh sorry for going off on this :)designbot
- going off on this :) I am by no means pro-pollution or anything like that...I just think this whole issue is totally sensationalized.designbot

Stop hating on Gore. The bottom line is that the guy has done more to spread the word about global warming than anyone else.
- you are right, but you should at least practice what you preach.nicole_marie
- Yes, don't you see the disconnect here? if Gore is so concerned about Global Warming, why the hell is he not practicing what he's preaching?designbot
- practicing what he preaches. One can only conclude that he does not really care, or he has another agenda.designbot
- johndiggity0
al gore is not a scientist.
- ukit0
OK, quick question, why is it that all the global warming deniers are conservative? It really is sad how a debate like this has become mainly political.
I prefer to listen to the scientists, and something like 95% of them agree that it is real and a threat.
- ukit please post some links to back this up...it's simply not true.designbot
- Just search: http://www.google.co…ukit
- uberdesigner0
if we shut off all of the polluters right now we'd still be fucked, right? so let's party.
- lowimpakt0
i don't think Al Gore (and the majority of serious climate change commentators) is telling people to stop moving around/travelling, innovating, building new businesses, living full lives etc but he is putting forward that the systems that allow us to do these things need to change.
by him sitting in a shack, not travelling around creating a political movement behind the big issues of climate change wouldn't do anybody any good.
- that second paragraph is a grammar hell.. but hyou know what I mean.. :)lowimpakt
- ukit0
I am convinced there is an agenda attached to this whole issue.
-designbot
Dude, the only agenda is by the oil companies who have created the global warming denying propaganda that you are sadly repeating here.
- designbot0
@low - But when his carbon footprint is a whopping 20 TIMES the national average, you have to ask yourself if he really believes what he preaches. I take him with a grain of salt, the same way I take the televangelists that claim to be Christian but then only ask for money and preach about worldly prosperity and riches. There is a big disconnect there, and it only takes a little common sense to see it.

al gore is just a whiny fear mongering terrorist

"ExxonMobil Corp. gave $16 million to 43 ideological groups between 1998 and 2005 in a coordinated effort to mislead the public by discrediting the science behind global warming"
"Alden Mayer, the Union of Concerned Scientists' strategy and policy director, said in a teleconference that ExxonMobil based its tactics on those of tobacco companies, spreading uncertainty by misrepresenting peer-reviewed scientific studies or cherry-picking facts.
Dr. James McCarthy, a professor at Harvard University, said the company has sought to "create the illusion of a vigorous debate" about global warming."
- zenmasterfoo0
He also has a lot to earn from his own personal investments in green technologies. It's not that he practices what he preaches, it's that he's convinced the Global community to accept from fear his ideas on global warming when an equal number of scientists globally do not support the findings on his research. What has he to gain? Where do all these dollars go? What corporations get the nod from our government, and what ties does he have to them.

^ "Equal number of scientists globally do not support"
Bullshit. Any honest look at the situation will show you that the vast majority of real scientists long ago accepted that climate change is real and probably a threat.
What is most amazing is how one side of politics has been successfully brainwashed by business interests channeling their propaganda through Fox News and other conservative media outlets.
