why bother posting for critique, when the sites live and the client loves it?
you know yourself - its a turkey ... let it go
- i thought with the site up, they'd get more flexible.winnie_the_shit

Yeah, the client IS happy (right?). But it's always good to let the fine folks a QBN rake something over the coals.. for my own educational benefit (and others) and for the rare opportunity to discuss DESIGN on qbn.
- Didnt mean to sound harsh in the last post - sorryjeveritt
- I still think this thread falls under the category of "shit" as most of the threads do.flavorful

All I can add is that a food aficionado site should at least correctly spell "foodie."

In other news..
I was playing your album on a flight to London the other week, and as we flew through the afternoon sunshine, and landed at dusk, one of your tracks took us down through the brightly lit cloud-tops, along through the orange golden landscapes to the dusky underside, and inky dark dampness of the english evening -just perfectly... :). "I must tell him this perfectly scored momentous little occaision occurred", I thought somewhat oddly... I still play that album a lot, always seems to match whats going on around me.- damn that's some good fucking news!!!

I agree, let it go and hope for better next time. Or...start from scratch and hit them up with a fully fleshed out redesign that will blow them away.
But you won't fix this one by tinkering around the edges.

everything is too big

Does it have to be *that* kind of a metallic background? Something more stainless steel-ish would suit better.
- Its more galvanized steel to be exact. I am just saying.Knuckleberry

More differentiation (typographically speaking) between "simple, fresh, delicious" and the navigation rollover type "Recipes," "Backstage Pass," etc.
The single image of an orange slice feels content-limiting.
Define a clearer grid and work with a better type hierarchy throughout. Other users here will chime in on this, I'm sure. The metallic background and color palette are the least of your worries. Good luck.
- A divider?winnie_the_shit
- No. Some typographic differentiation.monospaced

Yeah, they want that wavey metallic.. not stainless steel. Because the set of the show has that wavey metal look.. specifically want that. ie. Loves it.

Is there a point to making the screenshot move?

Looks like 1998 trying to be 2008

I am sorry. This is just bad.

I'm not trying to be harsh, but this is a perfect case study in poor web design. Off brand, irrelevant content, no meta description in the code, no structure or hierarchy, visually unpleasant.
That first page loads nothing for me but a menu. Nothing at all about the site, what it does, what it can do for me? Looks like half the page has failed to load.
- agree.zenmasterfoo
- no flash there? What browser?
winnie_the_shit - Firefox3, mac OSXjevad
- same on safari, os xmax_prophet

I know the client loves it, but the background is awful. no way around that one I guess? If you can convince them to pull it into the page as something else, maybe a header bg treatment, hell I don't know it hurts looking at it.
Some other suggestions
1) The top header background is troubling to the eye. Oh geesh, it's all troubling but those rings are bugging me. Lose them.
2) Try to call out the navigation some more. The hover states seem very under-designed.
3) Reverse the toggle graphics in the front page flash. My eyes tell me to click on the opposite one
4) The curves on your footer treatment aren't working. Not to mention it seems way tall just for two logos. Reduce their size and make that white space less tall as well.
5) Bring in some instructional text for each interior page. The recipes page just begs for it.
6) your content padding is over the top. Lessen that up some. Tightening up your content might make it look like you have more.- I'm going to send this to the client OK?winnie_the_shit
- sure. give them my number as well. I'll send you the bill. :)zenmasterfoo

It hurts.. but much appreciated y'all.

If the obtuse metallic background has to stay, I would at least drop the contrast on that bad boy. Right now it's screaming for attention like a 16 in a miniskirt with daddy issues.
- That may be workable..winnie_the_shit
- I think the general darkness & contrast of the metal wall in the photo on the feeback page is better.BRNK
