the german word "apart" translates into english like: attractive, distinctive, elegant, strikingly, unusual. there are several german brands having the word in their name, like "fashion apart". now i wonder how this sounds to the english speaking as the english word has a different meaning. does it feel negative or funny or wrong?

It's not negative as such at all... "apart" in English can be used in this way such as "....a fashion apart" would mean, a fashion of a higher level that steps outside of the pack, so to speak. It doesn't mean attractive etc as it does in German though. In English used in this way it means more like "Stand out from the crowd"
Having said that, i doubt you would start with that phrase in English given a choice.
