it's repurposed footage, but at least i get to see it on the big screen. I would love to have seen the original series (attenborough, not weaver!) in a proper theater.

I saw it on Wednesday. Its the same footage used in the Discovery Channel's Planet Earth series but I'd estimate there to be about 40% new footage not used in the show.
If you're a fan of the show I found Sigourney Weaver's cold, efficient narration better to the warm, dramatic narration of James Earl Jones but it wasn't bad by any means. Some of the shots were stunning and even better on the big screen.
For those with kids, my child development major girlfriend said it was too scary for anyone younger than 8 due to the hunter/prey scenes but they were pretty much the same ones from the show so if you've seen that you've seen as bad as it can get.
Overall it was worth the ticket and enjoyable.

Its a good reminder of what we are totally destroying as humans. We need more of those films.

i worked on the campaign for this movie.
all it is is BBC "planet earth" footage re-cut and added to in order to fabricate stories about three groups of animals.
hope that clears things up *didn't read the whole thread*

kids watching nature. it's always a good thing.
and smart too; we have the planet earth DVD set and my kids have trouble sitting through a single episode. they want a story. disney knows what they're doing.

This was a disappointment. Let me count the ways.
1. 16:9. I saw this in the theater because I thought it might be 2.35:1, but no, just the TV footage upscaled.
2. James Earl Jones may have been appropriate for the narration, but whoever wrote his lines must think it is 1965 and Disney is relevant.
3. This is a frame for frame copy of "Pole To Pole" from the Planet Earth series, except they couldn't leave well enough alone (the original was almost perfect) and some scenes have been sped up or slowed down for "dramatic effect" which is just ridiculous. Along with some other unnecessary edits.
4. The Disney intro, which is stupid.
The whole thing comes across as Disney buying rights to replay the Planet Earth series, but wiping a little shit in the corner and calling it there own. I feel bad for the dudes at the BBC or whatever who put a lot of work into this to watch Disney break it.
