I created a button on the main stage and it won't let me apply actions to it. The same is true of movie clips. WTF

Welcome to AS 3, place your code on a frame in the timeline and use dot notation to refer to the instance name of your button.

for fuck's sack. why did they do that? what do you mean dot notation? thanks.

It was always bad practice to put code on movie clip or button instances. Those should be put on frame scripts or .as files. dot notation just means yourMovieClipInstanceName_mc.but... etc.

thanks. I used to be good with scripted animation but cs4 if a far departure from 2004 when I knew what I was doing.

I'm trying to make a simple email button but the shit's not working. The milk's gone bad.

it's not CS4. just choose 'AS2' in your publishing prefs to change the file from AS3.
