For those of you who make music or do audio production stuff, what software would you recommend to do a remix of a track (electronic music)?
Any good plugins to recommend for altering/ distorting samples etc?.

Of course, Pro Tools is the industry standard. But, that costs a bit more, since you have to buy their hardware (also hard to get the cracks since you need the hardware). Cubase is good... I like it... I have Cubase 4, but you could probably get away with using Cubase LE if it's just for remixing.
But, depending on the complexity of your project, GarageBand might be all you need. Also, for simply remixing, looping, and adding a small amount of fx, Adobe SoundBooth is pretty good.
- I should note that Cubase supports .VST plugins, which are plentiful...some cost money, some are free...SigDesign

Thanks. Downloading the Adobe trial right now. I might just sequence in Ableton for now just to get a rough version down.
Any good tips on must have plugins? I know there's thousands out there...

Live, as it has very fluid control over audio and good built-in plugins.

Live is the way to go.
1. It's easy
2. It's easy
3. Every electronic musician uses it.If you're spark, like me, you so talented you don't need any of that stuff..
but that's just me.

haha, OK good deal, I already own Live for DJing stuff.
What about the VST stuff? Need a great sounding filter and other effects to mess with samples etc. I don't mind paying a little if there's a good option out there.
Also, is there a decent technique/ plug in for separating out vocals?

get ALL of these. The reverb is amazing.. and use the bootEQ as much as you can. Use the Rescue AE if you just can't seem to get enough waxy bumb.

Surely Live comes with a Lowpass filter.

I'm really into leaving a generative music program running all day long.....

If you're familiar with Brian Eno's use of Koan, this will make sense, otherwise, try googling....
