Even the most talented seem to turn to shit as they get older. Thoughts?

Ya. It's called getting old for a reason.
- Pupsipu0
it's all about neuroscience and Michelangelo

it's all about not giving a shit after 14 years of clients expecting more for less, cheques bouncing and general fuckery.
- Pupsipu0
I heard Michelangelo didn't have that problem, but then he couldn't see shit when he was old and rich.

I like that airey... simple. Maybe VIAGRA is the answer. We'll see.

The really good ones don't necessary get worse, but they do certainly plateau and stop growing at the same rate as in their 20s, 30s and 40s. It varies but that's what I've seen.
And then there's Doyald Young, who continues to produce mind-blowingly beautiful work. That's largely because he's stayed current as technology has changed, which is especially notable for someone who designs type (among other things). He's moved from metal to Linotype to digital without skipping a beat.
For the rest of us though, yes we do plateau or get worse after a certain point.

- Not to mention that the guy's in his early 80s... craziness.Scotch_Roman

the most talented don't turn to shit as they get older. the ones that turn to shit are the ones that catch or define the zeitgeist but that's all they have - just the one idea. they aren't able to adapt - they burn bright then fade. the zeitgeist moves one and they're left high and dry. true talent will always have something new to say.
- ^hans_glib
- say 'zeitgeist' once more and i'll grab your nose, so help me...harlequino

- zeitgeist really is a such a gay word, isn't it?hans_glib

Many film directors, writers and photographers do their best work as they're older, sometimes even making work that's very attractive to a younger audience....
Design is often thought to be generation based, yes, the ad biz sometimes thinks you're over the hill at 35, sometimes like parts of the star-factory music business.... apparently based on the idea that you can only really communicate to people your own age...
I don't think this is true, but it's an assumption...
... also, in the ad biz, most AD's become ACD's and CD's after a certain point, and spend most of their time in meetings.... I did know a few AD's who refused to be "promoted"

yes, I'm well past that age

im only getting started, i have so many Fn ideas.
you dont even know, my fine feathered friends....you dont even know
(but yeah my graphic design has fallen way behind on a technological scale...im 30 now, I need to step my 3d game up although I have been grindin on graphic design basics for a few years now which has me with a better understanding of the form from a fundamental standpoint, bla, bla, blaaahhhhh, what are wods anyways except personal cheerleading???)
