ya, uberdesigner, i agree. i practices usability, but i've always felt like it's at the expense of the experience. if he had the final say over what sites looked like, i'm afraid they'd all be the same.

i think designers hate him because he is not interested in design the way most designers do....like, how cool it looks. he is all about functionality and for some reason, designers hate that...i think...can't quite figure it out.
I admit his site is stubbornly functional and maybe a designer could get him some better colors. i mean, yellow?
here is a site along those lines, stubbornly anti-design. and a Fortune 50 company!

the one thing i've noted is that he doesn't always say thing in absolutes. i remember thinking how absurd to never accept flash as a tool for the web. now, i'm not a fan of flash for certain circumstances, but in some cases, like narrative storytelling, it seems like a pretty good tool.
however, I've seen nielsen say things like (and i don't have the exact quote) flash mostly sucks (to me, meaning, there are times when it's acceptable to use.
i think it's more of a challenge to do things a bit differently, but i also feel like that's why the web is progressing. if we only went by what the masses knew how to use, we'd still be using Gopher sites.

He is not a visual designer, also he is more on the theoretic side (F-shaped reading patterns, waiting times, how thoroughly people read text etc)
People who do not understand this, are shiteating cocksuckers, people with absolutely no taste or talent, who use clipart and other people's ideas
Those are either zitfaced "mushrooming talents" who installed a pirated copy of photoshop, or human office cattle -- secretaries and managers who design powerpoint presentations, hang out in designers forums and partake in photoshop battles, who like "constructive criticism", grammar and blind obedience to the strict rules of shiteater-design, and criticize whatever everyone else criticizes (90% of all "designers" -- a scientifically proven fact)- Sounds like just about every design firm out there...********

designers don't like him because most of them are from art school, and like to draw and look at pretty pictures. Nielsen is more of a designer than they are. Fucking artfags
