So, now that courts there have decided Gay marriage will be allowed, do you think parents of gay people will pressure them to marry?

And will gay people respond any better to that than the previous pressure they got to be straight?

  • airey0

it's about time those fuckers got the same pressure as us straights. they've been living it up without the family giving them the 'when are you tying the knot' attacks for long enough!

  • airey0

i wish they'd legalise it here. there's a few family and friends that have been giving me shite for taking so long to ask my other half to marry me, it would be nice to start giving it to them! they've been coasting on the whole 'it's not legal' argument for long enough!

    Arranged gay marriage? LOL

Whenever I hear someone in the States say "the sanctity of marriage" I have only two words to say:

  • airey0

yep. the same place that has a star trak chapel, an elvis chapel and a tv series called "Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire?" is not allowed to talk about the sanctity of it.

    hey iowa, thanks.

now, california... WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!

    • blame it on the o.c.akrokdesign

I'm awaiting the fundamentalist backlash.... but then again, I know some pretty cool people in Iowa....

hopefully gays will no longer marry straight people, as has been known to happen if they stay in the closet... this is not a joke, happened to somebody I know.....

    • yeah that closet thing can get ugly. still if it weren't for closeting uberdesigner wouldn't exist.airey

I'm not religious to any extent, but I thought the good book makes it pretty clear about what it thinks about homosexuals and marriage.

I could care less what people do, but if you're gay and you want to "get married", you should probably rethink your religious views and your alignment with a system that wants to send you to hell.

    • Or just don't call it "marriage". That would work too.moth
  • Beach8oy20

The bible doesn't make it clear what it thinks about homosexuals - only peoples interpretations of the bible thinks it clarifies it.

The bible describes three same sex relationships: Ruth & Naomi, David & jonathan and Daniel & Ashpenaz.

I'm neither religious nor gay - but always feel the need to impart knowledge! ;)

    • yep, good points.airey
    • "I'm neither religious nor gay "
hmm...and your user name is? lol. j/k

hahaha. the same fucking book calls shellfish an abomination.

marriage isn't just a religious matter, in fact it's not religious at all to many people. been to a wedding with a celebrant and not in a church, it's not a religious wedding. it's a state approved union.

the co-called good book is a collection of info put together as a 'best of' by constantine in 312 as a political move. to base anything on an incomplete work is insane.

and if you're not religious then why even mention the bible? seriously?

if you're using religion as a basis and not homophobia then answer me the following:

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Leviticus 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. How should I deal with this?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as stated in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Leviticus 15:19-24). The problem is, how can I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

Leviticus 25:44 states that I may buy slaves from the nations that are around us. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

A friend of mine says that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Leviticus 10:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

Leviticus 20:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

It makes it as clear as premarital sex, adultery, lying, idolatry...

It's not deniable, and it's definitely not open to 'interpretation'!

    • and you're 'not religious' aha. righto assehole. at least have the balls to stand up for your opinion.airey
  • moth0

I mention the bible because marriage is religious ceremony.

    Have a civil union instead.

    • and i mentioned it because this is growing in to a religious discussion. Seems silly not to mention it at allBeach8oy2
    • no it's not. it can be. it can also simply be a state approved union.airey
    • I merely made a point against Moth's point. Not, to link it to the marriage of gaysBeach8oy2

I've read the bible airey - it doesn't make me religious. It actually put me right off it,

    • then why use a religious point of view towards a union that isn't exclusively religious?airey
    • it simply sounds like you're not for gay marriage and using religion to bolster your point.airey
    • you "read" the bible?GeorgesII
    • Because I was replying to vaxorcist, who mentioned 'fundamentalist backlash'.moth
    • yet backing away from supporting religion?!? way to have it both ways there.airey
    • and it's not fundamentalist to point out what the bible clearly say, in plain fucking english!moth
    • if you're not religious why would you care what the bible said. written in many languages, none of them english.airey
    • I don't support religion, but I try to understand it. What's the problem?moth
    • transcribed to english which always falls prey to abiguity.airey
    • Most people on this planet live by the thing. You can't ignore it.moth
    • not but you don't have to buy into it either.airey
  • Beach8oy20

to illustrate the discussion going on between moth and airey

Ruth 1:14, referring to the relationship between Ruth and Naomi, mentions that "Ruth clave onto her." (KJV) The Hebrew word translated here as "clave" is identical to that used in the description of a heterosexual marriage in Genesis 2:24: " Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."

  • moth0

"hahaha. the same fucking book calls shellfish an abomination."

It's just that kind of nonsense that stopped me going down that path when I was 15 - or whenever it was that I bought myself a bible and read it. My point is, is that you don't have to be a 'fundamentalist' to 'read between the lines' and draw some insane conclusions from this book. The insane conclusions are right there with crossed t's and dotted i's.

  • airey0

yeah moth same here. my school life was christian (anglican) the whole way so i've been there read that. i still support anyone who chooses to be religious. all i'm saying is that by taking a religious point of view in saying what the bible says about marriage but not actually being religious then the bible should mean as much to your point of view as any other work of fiction created by committee.

therefore by following the facts, if a person is not religious yet uses a religious tome to support a point of view then in this case it would seem like a homophobe hiding behind a book they don't actually believe in.

I read the King James edition Bible, which included all the extra stuff much like reading the Lord Of the Rings with all Tolkien's notes and shit and full appendix.

It's like the box-set edition, with Directors commentary (that really help actually. God? Fancy explaining this scene here??).

    • i'll wait for the graphic novel. less 'wordy'.airey

It would be great if the people who opposed gay marriage also opposed divorce. But that would mean that there was some sort of consistency in this world.

I have jetlag and can't sleep.

    • that's crazy talk and you know it. next you'll say they should be opposed to kiddy-porn!airey
    • haha, lack of sleep brings lack of clarity.DrBombay
