Whether she adopts this kid or not, it really doesn't make a hill of beans of difference to anyone except to two people, the kid in question and Madonna. Is it a net plus or minus for them? Who knows...good for Madonna if she has some love in her heart that wants to get expressed this way, but she shouldn't be allowed to run roughshod over local laws just because she can...but she's only one person, and the kid is only one person..
But Georgesll is right in the larger view..this whole idea of "Africa is a big poor country with people who can't take care of themselves..." is a weird, warped view that needs to stop. They're are countries, regions and cities in Africa that are far richer and better than the poorer regions of the US of A, although of course the US is richer as a whole by far than any nation in Africa in terms of GDP. (plenty of places in Africa I would live in before I'd live in Detroit, for example - on quality of life issues). Of course their is deep and abject hunger, resource deprivation and entrenched oppression across the continent, and it's really not helped by giving billions of dollars of aid to despots who horde the best for themselves, which is what ends up happening more often than not.
The whole concept in the West of pitying poor poor Africa is just helping to retard the entire continent. And it doesn't help that the Chinese are going full tilt on now for resource extraction from the continent....

I'm dead serious when I say this,
but some people just don't understand how simple rules work.

you want to adopt a child, fill up the forms, prove you will give him/her all the necessary for a good life and WAIT for the results to come.
you can go shop for kids in poor countries because you just feel like it, in this entire debate I didn't see anyone bringing up the fact that in most occidental countries you have to wait a minimum of 6 months to get your credential checked.
-
why doesn't she adopt a british kid, I think them too would love to have a family, why some stars think they can do elsewhere what they can't do at home.

If Madonna was truly eager to have another child in her life, why not focus on kids in the US? Florida has the worst DCS and ward system in the country as I hear it. Why does it matter where they're from?
Unless the publicity that comes with that adoption is immeasurable compared to some domestic kid adoption.
- juhls0
That's probably it, harlequino.
The country she is adopting from also gets publicity, which can be both negative AND positive for the people there.
I wonder why all these celebrities go to the same areas to adopt, but then I realize that a lot of them do adopt from different places. They just don't let everyone else in the world know, or don't have as much publicity as Madonna has.

never a good thing to go around shagging people less than half your age if you're thinking of adopting.

- Fuck it, we already got racism in the thread, let's bring in gender bias...TheBlueOne

Let them die! That’s what you think “GeorgeII” !?!
There are laws, my ass! Even in US laws are... customized
You think like a straight mormonIn fact you are an “against man”
You know, when someone does something there is always :
-someone who wants to do nothing
-someone who wants to do something else
-someone who is againstSorry, I’m not that type of guy!
I prefer people who does something rather...Au-revoir.

This is a pitiful trend. In the end, all I see is photo opportunities.

Well i think it's a bit bad for celebrities to go to Africa and just pic children because all the publicity and they only do it because its fashionable and they are taking children away from their families and if everone did it they'd be no more babies left in Africa.
But at the same time I can see why they would to it because they are poor and Madonna can give them a better life and they will be looked after and it would be celebrities doing charity work.
But then yeah, i can see why it would be better to pay for schools in Africa.
But yeah, oprhan children need loving parents too so i can see all sides...

I think that these celebrities adopting these children is awesome. There are plenty of starving poor children out there, and despite the arguments presented here, it's a good thing for them to be adopted and brought to the United States. It's pretty much guaranteed that their lives will be better here than there.
And why would a local law require the adopting parent to reside in their country for up to two years before taking the child home? That doesn't seem necessary for any reason. The sooner that kid gets into a healthier environment, the better. Their celebrity SHOULD grant them the right to take these kids right away, in my opinion. Not enough adopting is going on while all these kids just sit in orphanages. Yeah, Americans are overweight and all that, but I'm pretty sure Madonna can provide the right guidance to raise healthy kids that probably won't get diabetes. At least they won't die of malnutrition or civil war.
- janne760
i agree with monospaced though. i think celebs should be allowed to shop freely and without limit in any african orphanage. the publicity will help raise awareness and before you know it bono will be there and maybe bill gates. or when less lucky gary glitter..
anyway, it's good to help raise attention for the issue when celebs shop for kids in africa!
