We are supposed to be designing for clients, NOT other designers. If this gets your point across, and makes clients happy, so be it.

for my next portfolio i'm going to put my screenshots on the side of semi trucks. hopefully people will be like "hey man did you design that semi" and i'll be like "hells yeah". no one has thought of that before.
- that just gave me a semi7point34
- big enough for me to put my work on? hahakona
- *writes down 'big enough to put your work on' as new possible pick up line7point34

This would make sense if you've done a 360 campaign and want to show that particular layout is for online. Or if you are an agency and presenting to the client going from out of home, print, tv, and online.

I think the laptop/monitor thing is just fine for showing web work. I see quite a few talented designers using it to present their work and see absolutely no problem with it. It's what I did on my site, except I used a livesurface image of a cinema display (I guess if Apple's going after people, it would be livesurface and not me??)
I've also found that it helps clarify context in the printed version of my portfolio. Otherwise it might not be immediately obvious that what people are seeing is a website.
Anyway. It's a stupid thing to bitch about. Onward and upward.
- Do you do a lot of print pieces with navigation? =) j/kzarkonite

Brad Batesole at Five Sharp still doesn't have a portfolio up.
maybe he really did steal everything and has been reduced solely to templates
