Seriously though, the average man shouldn't be entrusted to pick out a ring. Most have terrible taste and they have no idea what size to pick.

I dunno, I think you can ask someone to marry you without a ring. I took my lady window shopping for rings assertained the style she liked and the size, chose one she liked and at an appropriately unexpected juncture, produced it. In my case in the middle of a new order/smiths gig.
Worked a treat. Romantic yet practical.

i said this a few times in notes up there... ^^^
if you get a wood ring, she will have to take it off every time she washes her hands because with time it will become soft or start falling apart. plus it's a quick way to lose it because you get tired of having to take it off.
silver imo, is the best choice in natural metals.whatever you do, don't get her a ring that is too small!

oh, and congrats... i just proposed on Jan 29th... got her a sweet Verragio ring with an Asscher cut diamond.
