In the comments to the original posting in the PotD thread, Sandders said
"It is made with a displacement map. You paint on a new layer with white. Everything that is closest is the most opaque white etc..."
Does that mean anything to anyone?
- I would've just followed on in there, but the PoTD's contammed.Nairn
- you can 'map' textures and such from other files. not sure how it applies here7point34
- What in though? A 3D prog? I 'm sure this shit was done in PS or summ't.Nairn
- no, it's part of PS.
http://www.photoshop…7point34 - i've used it to map on to fabric before7point34
- Gosh. Have these been in PS long? I think I might've played with these years ago - back '99, from a phong.com tute.Nairn
- But right now, I'm gazing stupidly into an abyss of knowledge.Nairn
- it's been in as long as i can remember. i never use it7point34
- ... so about that font collection...7point34

maybe you need this, look at baby image there

I've seen old skool flash experiments that did this via the slice method I initially mentioned, so assumed it'd be something along those lines.. but with some kind of blend between layers.
Perhaps I'm just over-analysing it - the glitch in the right tache didn't fit with the otherwise convincing perspective on nose and eyebrows, which made me wonder whether there was some kind of automatic way of doing it.

If you cut those 3 or 4 layers, wouldn't it be fairly easy to do it in flash? Just make the different rotate and whatnot..

if you have after effects, you would probably want to start there. im sure there is a filer in there to do that kind of morphing.
if not, you can probably do it with photoshop as described above, but making the motion could be tedious, and may not work that well
- Thanks. I really, really, really need to start playing with AE one day!Nairn

i am sure there's an app for this

I'm only guessing that the same technology was used to make the wobble app for iPhone:

So, it's as basic as I thought it was, and it's just a case of practice and technique? Fair enough.

Hey nairn look at the guy on the rights upper lip.
it's about three or four layers simply cut out popped ontop of each other then rotated anticlockwise :).
