Saw it friday, just after the movie i was disapointed and just feeling it was OK. But a couple hours later, i changed my mind... it was a good movie actually. Not standard or hollywoodish.

I wish the actual movie had the same energy as the trailer.
The shots were beautiful, but there was something missing in the plot.

Where the boring things are.

was not impressed by the film.
many parents walked out of the theater with their children. its a bit to existential maybe.

cinematography was incredible, the expressed motion and chaos in the beginning was refreshing, I never liked camera shakes but it conveys the message perfectly, and the characters facial expressions should win some kind of award alone, all in all you should know what your getting yourself into, its a little self indulgent(what else would you expect from mr jones?) but all in all, its a great movie and for any artist an absolute must see.

It was a great film. I'm not really sure what people were expecting. LOL. I'm with Juskin, you shoulda known what you were getting in for if you even thought about going to see this. If it was a waste of your money, it was your own fault.

my mother-in-law took our 4 & 6 year old nieces and they all loved it.

baseline_shift nailed it. Saw it with the kids last weekend and honestly it sucked. Loved the stories as a kid but it really didn't flow as a movie. I have a feeling that most that did love the book as kids had their own rendition in their minds eye and this version was just way off base.

with something like 16 months of constant hype no surprise people feel a tad bit disappointed :P

It was definitely hard to see or notice how closely Maurice Sendak worked with Jones on this. I mean yes the characters are very good but storyline is weird.

maurice sendak is a strange dude. he lives near my aunt in connecticut. quite a recluse.

i had a problem with the flow at first also.
but, as i was thinking that i got into the this-is-a-story-being-told-by-a... mode.
i then enjoyed it a lot more
