Friend approached me about designing two dvd covers. They would be based off of an existing look and feel and would each take an hour for each. What would you charge as a flat rate for both?

$100 each?

What you normally charge per hour times two (minus potential 'friend discount').

wow... no wonder I have a hard time when some clients see my rates.... I think you have to value your work, if it's a friend job, I'd charge a beer only and ask for a favor in return, like a skill trade, rather than lower your prices, lest anyone find out you did this for $100...
I think there's no such thing as a "2 hour" job, unless you have total creative freedom, there's no back and forth, no approval process, and the printer actually has accurate specs without you having to call them 3 or 4 times to get somebody who knows what's actually going on....

better trading services than lowering fees. it doesn't hurt as much.VectorMasked

It is a good friend. The work is for her boss however.
- Then it's not FOR your friend, and I don't see a reason to discount.ETM

There would be the basic admin/accounting costs to consider. I always use these as the basis for a minimum cost of a job. I would say about $100 each, get ’em in, get ’em out.
- I’d kill for a couple of these at the moment. ;-(MrOneHundred
