It won't start up. The power light is on but nothing. I push power button down and it seems to turn off. I hit power button again and instead of making the start up chime, it makes that noise when it's coming out of sleep mode...but nothing.
Anyone have something like this happen? What to do?! Arrghh. Tomorrow is my last day and I need to get some stuff off my computer. :/

Can you try taking out the battery and starting up from mains power?

is the battery fucked?
- uberdesigner0
unplug, take out the battery, hold power button for 5 secs then put every thing back in place

are you sure you're not looking at the kettle?

if i am not wrong, there is a reset button you can press after you removed the battery.

this actually happens to me every now and then when I shut the screen without turning off the computer, its really annoying.
If you press and hold the power button for a few seconds it will turn on again, but the previous model didn't have that problem (I've been reading on the apple forums that this could be quite common)
There is our lesson, NEVER buy a brand new product from apple until the .5 upgrade is released.

wooohooo, macs are turning into pc's

mine wouldn't boot up after the second day of getting it. then a month later my usb ports didn't work so I called applecare and they had me restart the system by taking the battery out. the guy on the phone told me that 80% of problems can be cured by this.

thanks guys. Yeah, I've tried removing battery and holding power for 5 seconds and then 30 seconds and still nada. This happened a while back but I would get the start up chime sound...a video ram zap finally fixed it. This time I can't even get it to start up again. I don't think the MacBook Pros play well with sleep mode.
- you have applecare?uberdesigner
- my work does but it doesnt help me get my stuff off before I quit. :(monkeyshine
- stay on for an extra weekuberdesigner
- or take it to an apple storeuberdesigner

my macbook pro seems to be discharging a LOT of power still while in sleep mode but otherwise no real issues here. try smacking it, with a hammer.

sounds like a new logic board to me

Happened to me 1 month after I bought my MacBook Pro at the end of 2008. The screen died. Took into the Apple store and got it back 2 days later with a new screen. Haven't had any problems since.

macbook pros fucking suck. my circa 2006 model has had the logic board replaced 2 times and it still randomly blackscreens!
apple's hardware is shit. their quality control is shit. fuck apple.

My MBP's battery lasts less than 2 hours and I bought it almost 3 years ago. I have a $500 shitty laptop for web browsing and the battery on that sucker is approx. 4 hours. Apple makes overpriced products that luckily are nice to look at but suck at its core.

It's the RAM. I had the same problem, brought it back to the store to let them change it. Other RAM works fine.

i've still got a thinkpad circa 2001 that works flawlessly and never has any problems.
take that apple. :p
