so after years of not needing a resume i am on the hunt for a new full time gig after recently being laid off - so any trends or taboos i should be aware of on resumes these days ?

Decent resumés have a "Links" section on them now just like websites. The employer evaluates you based on the kind of sites you are recommending to them.
