at first i wasn't sure what to think, but after reading the article i'm kind of into it.
it's a respectable bold move, and when the former president of sci fi says they can't own "Sci Fi" because it's a genre, but they can own "syfy", i found that quite interesting. also, the fact that when people think of sci fi they think of aliens, space, the future, etc., which doesn't capture their entire landscape, i thought the whole idea was pretty smart after all.
will take some getting used to, but i'm on board. i like the execution, too.

'One big advantage of the name change, the executives say, is that Sci Fi is vague — so generic, in fact, that it could not be trademarked. Syfy, with its unusual spelling, can be, which is also why diapers are called Luvs, an online video Web site is called Joost and a toothpaste is called Gleem.'
ok, so it's all about being able to trademark the name.

at first glance it seems lame but upon second review it seems more dynamic.

I always loathed the Sci-Fi brand name, so this isn't really any worse.
I'll miss the Saturn-like mark though.

SyFy sounds like a tropical disease but I don't hate it.

This will probably anger the 25 people who actually watch this network.
