Written lots of emails and drank coffee. I can't remember anything else before the coffee.

very good fotos.

Why didnt you shoot the action? You have to capture the whole story man. Are the cops there a bit weary of photographers?
- considering the riot was in regards to police brutality I'd wager that's a safe guess.ninjasavant

Why were you shooting from the side of the police?
- benfal990
the whole thing was a little bit sketchy. I was following the protester, suddenly everyone started running towards me, so I ran too. I wanted to film the scene but my memory card was almost full. The worst of it happend elsewhere, i tried to go but the cops told me to move away so I went home, I was hungry and tired as hell.
I did'nt have the reflex to shoot stuff like people trowing bricks in windows, putting fire to garbage and stuff like this... Some of the protesters did'nt want to be shooted or filmed... they yelled and pushed some photographers... So i was trying to keep it low profile.
The whole thing went from 2PM to 5PM, i walked 10km.
- Look at you! You can have my Rubberneck Badge from when I was a Cub Scout. Congrats!********

@ slappy;
At that moment, I was stuck between the protesters and the police and i managed my way on the side of the police because people were trowing stones and bricks and bottles.

I can confirm cops were having a really good time. They were screaming like kids after the first "attack". They had a good rush and they obviously liked it.

Next time, please capture pictures of violence.

yeah I know, those pics are not really "action pics"
that protest happend every year, i'll do better next year ;-)

I think your photos are great, I think you did a good job.
I always get a certain amount of satisfaction if I can visually build a complete story of the event I'm shooting. If that means shooting ugliness then so be it.
Thats the reason I ask. Getting home in one piece with your gear is important too. Might be time to get a nice long lens :)
- benfal990
yeah I was shooting with my brand new Lumix DMC-LX3 ... its like lens less. No zoom power at all.
And yeah I wanted to get back home in one piece with my gear intact. But you're right with a better zoom I could have take some better shots. And its the first time iam doing something like this, I was going with the flow but wanted to stay safe all the time. I can tell you some of the protesters were real badass that wanted only one thing, break stuff and get some action with the cops.
- benfal990
but i understand my pics did not tell anything without explanations. So I failed for that.

Nice.
Montreal drivers are crazy, aren't they? At least compared to Ottawa. I've been spoiled over here. I had a good time though. Some of it always reminds me of Toronto (a good thing) but it's only a 2 hour drive which makes it more convenient.
