The K10K competition was for a link site called "Sublime Porn". This was in maybe 1998 back when none of us had real jobs.
- Surprisingly, not everyone here is 22 years old. Just sayin'NotByHand

I did a few bits of freelance stuff when I was seriously skint, after dropping out of school, for a company that owned a few errr.. 'niche' sites (80 year olds, bestiality, tiny penises and other assorted fetishes). I was about 16 and my first job with them was $3500 to for a few hours making some flash navigation for each of their sites, was a definate yes even though there was no way in hell it was going in my portfolio.

I forgot the name of the agency that ran porn paper.

my first job at a software company back in around 96-97 we were doing a bunch of porn cd-roms.... doing the design work was a hoot, and we pretty much were laughing our asses off most of the time..
i mean, what else can you do when your AD asks you for an icon for 'double penetration' or 'pearl necklaces'....
it was a fun gig...- that reads a bit funny...it wasn't my first job, just my first job at a software company...

Side note -
There's a great read in this book:Written by this woman who is a copywriter for the porn industry. Overall it sounds exhausting and a near replica of ad agency life. Meetings about catalog blurbs for the new dildos, spending hours fast forwarding through 12 all anal movies so you can write something for the DVD box, and so on.
- A copywriter for the porn industry. I was about to ask, "What copy"? Then I remembered the blurbs on DVD boxes.

I have been using some Ukrainian and Hungarian female porn stars for a non-porn commercial entertainment project. I am actually open to doing erotica IF there was a big concept—something maybe involving AI script an non-linear film loops maybe?

I had a friend who'se sole job was to place the red dots over the 'too hardcore' bits of photos in porn mags. This was back in the day before porn sites and macs as well. Some of you kids won't be old enough to remember how hard and inaccessible porn was back in the eighties...
- I do remember. We'd only find it hidden in stashes in the woods.homeostatic

haha i often see ads saying that the applicant needs an open mind, as some of the work is for adult site! This obviously transaltes as "you're going to be promoting snuff films, bestiality and kiddie porn"
I applied. ;0)

If you got to actually do the concept of the site and it wasn't completely run of the mill... and you're were involved in the production, it might be fun. I have shot what could be considered softcore erotica. I don't take it seriously, but you can definitely be a bit creative with this stuff. Problem is that there's such a glut of brainless junk lacking sensuality.

My friend, an accomplished fashion photographer, used to assist at a porn studio in NYC. Loved it when the Long Island Italian photographer used to ask the models, "Are you ready to show some kitty?" If they thought the pose was a bit too revealing, he'd reassure them, "Don't worry, we'll do touchups the meat."

yeah, I can imagine if the piece you are most proud on your portfolio is some illustration that goes around some guy's cock.
With what face do you show that to your interviewer if he is not in the porn industry?
Oh yeah, check this binder I did for donkey's master 7th, her vagina lips are embossed and see the urine drip? that is silkscreened
- the guy I interviewed came in with a "there's no way I'm getting this" attitude. Almost made me want to hire him. Then I saw the dick designs...zenmasterfoo

I Interviewed a designer here for an entry level designer position. The only thing in his portfolio were screenshots of porn sites he'd done. Most were extremely hard core. There is definitely a certain aesthetic that succeeds in porn site design. In a few more years he'll be a master, I'm sure.
He didn't get the job.

I was asked if I could design one when I was 17 but had to turn it down as you can't even work on the sites until you're 18 (in the UK anyway).
