not a fan of alexa, but it has been around a fair while .... results for major sites are allright, but comparing smaller sites the data just isn't there, so who knows.....who uses freakin' toolbars and all that crap anyways
http://www.compete.com has some similar thing going on for comparing site traffic/rank etc

alexa is total bullshit, because they only count the hits from browsers with their toolbar/sites that installed their code (both are in the minority actually) the rest are estimates. For accurate results you have to look elsewhere

I've been looking for an alternative for Alexa for some time now, but couldn't find one.

yeah that's what I'd read..... and agreed who uses toolbars!
to be honest, I'm only looking for the vague estimates anyway... actually I'm also looking for a way of determining traffic via mobile sites - obviously you won't be using a regular browser to hit these sites (not normally any way) any tips for finding mobile traffic?

Alexa relies mostly on page views (which is kind of a mute parameter) and is very Asia skewed. it relies on a toolbar.
Comscore is much more reliable (and tracks a wise variety of metrics) and it is what advertisers care about.
However, if you want to track for internal analysis – there's omaniture (expensive) and google analytics.
