what sort of surface am i looking for if i want to print on a transparent sticky paper ?

i kow its not paper but if wanted to create my own stickers sort of thing

You'll need to talk to your printer about this.
Generally you'd use clear vinyl or similar but if you need opaque areas of colour you'll need to silk-screen white before printing the rest.

as ian said, transparent sticky paper.
although, most will not work with laser printers (i think) because they will just smudge all over, so make sure you get the specified type for your specific printer.
i could have that backwards ^. it might be that it will smudge on inkjet printers...double check. places like office max and kinkos both carry it.

You can buy off the shelf, printable stuff from a decent local stationer - just print on it backwards if you want to stick it on glass or something. Often, the problem with these is the lack of an opaque backing, so there's often a lot of shine through.
