Wow, Dropped out of QBN for a while. to come back to this.
Great job as everyone has said – It would seem that you both compliment each other quite well, gramme with his great designwork and skt with his real sensitivity to those designs and appreciation for viewing said work in the correct way. Congrats.
Few things (and yes some of them may of been mentioned but I wanted to jump right in)
a) When I clicked on the first link of work nothing happened. After a while a realised that I was already on the first piece but the nav item title did not match "SurfaceMix".
b) Columns are tight but I doubt you can do nout about that.
c) When I click on a portfolio piece and then move my cursor to the right to click next the menu stays dropped down until I move my mouse over the menu again. I reckon this is just an inherant bug that flash drop downs have.
d) I would like to know how many images there are on each project. When I clicked next, next, next it was only after a while that I realised I was on the 3rd project down.
e)I really don't like the fact that you have to tell people how to use the site.
Nothing too much and that is me being real picky so take it or leave it as you like... but better than 99% of portfolio's I have seen
Now you make me jealous and you have spurred me on to get mine done!!

I'd agree with a few of the thoughts on how it navigates, by the way, one thing that happened when using it in Dumb Mode, was that I assumed I was just clicking through the images one after the other, as my vision is focused on the centre of the screen I'm not seeing the plus/minus signs, so when my cursor ventures slightly past the centre line the images start going backward. This, in Dumb Mode, confused me for a minute.
Also would quite like a little indication of where I was in the flow of images, a la dancer...

I like your logo work.
- Iggyboo0
Your work loads nicely except your logo pages you don't give a name client year point of...
- skt0
thanks for everyone taking the time to look at this and give their suggestions by the way... appreciated. a few of them have been implemented already.
dancer, i think I have fixed the Roll Out bug on the portfolio menu, can anyone recreate this now?
as for an indication of where you are in the site would it help if instead of 'Project Info' in the header it was the title of the project i.e 'Formica 1/2' which updates as you move through the work?
need to check this with gramme, but i'm fairly sure we don't want to put anything more over the images of the work itself.

Agreed skt. Check your mail.
- Do we have room to make the columns any wider?Scotch_Roman
- no.skt
- Scotch_Roman0
For my fellow legibility sticklers, according to Bringhurst a decent minimum line width is 30 characters. Sidebars in English can get away with as little as 12–15 characters. I'm at 25 on average here. It would be more of a concern if there was more text, but as is there aren't more than a couple paragraphs for each project.
Unless we totally redesign the site, and until the 1024 minimum becomes outdated, the columns stay as is.

It's just a personal preference that information is not confined into a narrow space like that. But Paul's sites are always really well-done. I don't have much to say besides that.
- skt0
ok, some updates...
instead of project info we now have the title of what you are looking at and the page number... this should help people understand where they are in the site...
plus and minus has been changed for arrows so that you know for sure that you are moving back and forward through the pages...
does it all make more sense now?
cheers.

Looks good. I'm happy you implemented the drop-down for projects, cause I really hate click-through navs like that where you have to click and load through 100000 images to get back to what you wanted to see.
- digdre0
fucking beauty.
- skt0
- runs smoothly hereutopian
- shit off a shovel means fast.skt
- by the way.skt
- need to update the profile copy that refers to 'plus' and 'minus' buttons.Jnr_Madison
- and his google listing refers to his old site /flash.html, I'd archive that and forward to new site.Jnr_Madison
- I thought shit off a shovel would mean slow too. Kind of sticky and weighty.juhls

It's live, for those that missed it over the weekend. We modified the nav buttons, now they're arrows to avoid confusion w/ zooming. We also changed the "Info" header, now it's the client name and image number. Also improved color balance and saturation on some images. And like skt says, it's waaaaay faster now that it's on MT.
- Yup, much faster now.juhls
- still a little lag though, grey screen for what 20 secs? I like the site but that delay is irksome.nilsnihil
- 5 second max lag here, even after clearing my cache.Scotch_Roman
- it's not really a lag, it is loading the image... transitions without loading i think are 1.3 seconds.skt
- moth0
I like it. I'm not really sure about the photography though - especially some of the "ligature" stuff - it just looks bad on my monitor - like it was shot in a dark, grey room.
Nothing that couldn't be fixed with a bit of photoshop though.
- kelpie0
I just noticed something. Maybe its modesty or something, but you can't roll off the words "site credits" and get to socket studios to check out whoever made this thing without it all fading out. If it were me who'd built this I'd be pissed off about that ;)
- also most cunts have no ideqa what "build" means.nilsnihil
- skt didn't seem to mind... and I think "build" is pretty clear. I designed it, he built in.Scotch_Roman
- photographer too? common courtesy that they link out to be honest matekelpie
- Scotch_Roman0
Hmm, the Ligature stuff looks killer here on my monitor, except that last image, agree about that. I'll see if I have a better version of that image.
re: site credits—that's up to skt. I don't mind him adding the link at all if he wants to :)
- mistermik0
always late to the party.
top work mr skt.
- skt0
re: site credits
um, it was not so much that i didn't want a link, more that doing a rollOver and rollOut on the same button was easier. If I changed the rollOut to the extended strip you would need to move your cursor very precisely along to the end to be able to click on socket studios without it closing... or risk it staying open over the work.
i mean, i could have closed it on an interval or something, but I really wasn't that fussed.
if the photographer wants a link, i'll change it.
- I want a link.Jnr_Madison
- i meant the photographer jnr, not THE photographer.skt
- that's ok then.Jnr_Madison

I'm not sure I've ever seen a site crit go so high on nt before. ha.
But good work all around, anything I say will probably already have been mentioned.
