I'm freelancing "full time" for a somewhat big name studio, and I put full time in quotes because oh I'd say in the past 6 six that I've been working here I haven't put in more than 30 hours any week. They keep asking me to do work, then send me home when it's done and they wait to hear back from the client. I understand they don't want to pay me to sit around but Jesus, what a waste of my talent only having me help out on one (very boring) project.
Last week I worked 10 hours. 10. 10 is more than zero but fuck, that won't pay my bills. Then on Friday they call and tell me not to come in Monday or Tuesday this week, so I come in today and they tell me not to come in tomorrow, and they "may" need me Friday.
My question is I have the opportunity to interview on Friday at a pretty great place, but it's an all day interview. I gotta take the interview right? The client here has a big deadline they're expecting me to hit on Friday but man, I feel like I HAVE to take this interview because it's for full time (real full time) work. Should I take the interview and say f-u to this place?

In two weeks I would have worked 18 hours. Again, 18 is better than 0 but wtf. And mg33 don't bust my chops about having a job and so many others don't, I know but this interview is for full time.

When I was freelancing full-time my client was awesome about me taking interviews, they could not employ me full-time so they obviously knew I would be looking else where.
If your not where you want to be then you have to take chances to get there.

be bold man.
take the interview.

Tell them you can come in on thursday if they need you but you have other obligations on friday. Let them sort out if they need you then or not. They can't expect you sit around jerking off waiting for them to call. IMO

I can't airey, an agency sent me here and they're being dicks about finding me new work. They don't want to ruin their status with this place so they keep telling me to stay here and wait it out, but I worked 10 hours last week, 15 the week before and 20 before that. I'm freelancing on the site but it's a 1.5 hour commute to get here. I worked 10 hours last week and commuted 6 to get here. lol.

take the interview, you're gonna hate yourself later if you don't
- lvl_130
take the interview.
your situation sounds exactly like my wife's right now. slow-going all around, and the agency has got to cut budgets where they can. it's pretty shitty to wonder or not you are going to have work tomorrow...or next week. blah

^ I agree with mag! No wrong doing in being honest... and most importantly, do the interview!

What the fucking fuck is an 'all day interview'?
Tell that shower of shit to fuck off and do the freelance instead. Anyone who expects to take up a day of my time doing fucking interviews will go home with an arseload of blood bubbles.
What is this fucking world coming to. I ask you, I really have.
