Need some local advice, Going to New York in april - staying in Tribeca :D, it's my girlfs b'day one of the days we're there and I want to do something cool as a surprise, any tips / ideas? even on nice restaurants etc that I could go that night, have saved a few on nycgo.com but local knowledge would be greatly appreciated!!

what kind of food does she like? you can goto midtown and go to the top of the GE building which is in the center of times square and the view is totally amazing. since the weather hopefully will be warm at that time i suggest you look into rooftop bars, there are like 20 hidden gems in manhattan that is very nice to enjoy a few drinks enjoying the view and the sunsets.

What I really recommend is, pick a nice decent day and walk around West Village, there are quintessential New York neighborhood restaurants that you may guess in movies. Have a sit outside for coffee or brunch on a brick stoned building and tree lined street. Great photo op.
