Hey guys,
I hope you can help me with this question, but I am trying to optimize my companies site the best I can. I work for a Promotional Company. I don't have an SEO background... I am pretty much a print designer but for now I have had to focus on the web.
Our site is http://www.stitchylizard.ca
I have done the whole H-tags, Meta Tags, custom category URL descriptions, and I started doing stuff like creating a blog and mentioning the companies name, and the whole micro-blogging thing like twitter.
What methods do you use for SEO? Anything that's worth checking out for me?

http://www.seomoz.org/ has a lot of helpful content that's freely available.
My experience with SEO is that there's only so much that you can really do without killing yourself over it. A lot of it is just patience and trial and error.

I know content is king, but when it comes to a promotional company... There really should be another person strictly writing copy. Let me tell you its hard optimizing a site that has thousands of products, thats why I am steering away from the old html site we have. I have the .ca as a test with joomla and php.

I am no expert, but have had to deal with some seo shit in my time (against my will) and you seem to pretty much have all the main stuff covered.
- although, I was told in your page titles, put company name at the end, not the start.Jnr_Madison

for projects i do for disney, i am still given meta data hundreds of words deep including misspellings of common words/strings. I believe success comes from a combination of valid encoding practices, relevance, searchable terms, and traffic
- are you talking about the keywords meta data? I hear that tag is pretty much dead now a daysStitchy_Lizard
- You hear correctly. Total waste of time to even add any meta keywords.mg33

Its funny on our old html site, pages got picked up in google for the wrong keywords when a different page was better optimized for it. Google picked up the alt tags in the pictures which I heard some many people say that that tag is irrelevant now a days.

There's certainly less trickery involved in SEO than there used to be. Key things that help:
Well written copy
Good page titling
Backlinks to your site
Good site structure

What would you classify as a good backlink? Is that other pages just linking to each other such as the products page link back to the home?

Also remember that google grades the quality of incoming links, in the past any link was good, now the content from the external site has to be relevant to your site.
- reciprocal links are now not worth it if it's not from a relevant site.Jnr_Madison
