Tank02 - isn't that most competitions, though?

congrats on winning. i entered as well last year, but wasn't chosen. i like the work you are doing - #3 and #4 stand out for me. i'd push them further. i'd stay away from the "handmade" concept (1st video i think) since they kind of did that last year.

I really do find the reactions on here interesting. Tank02, I think you'll be lucky to find any award schemes that you don't have to pay to enter.
There seems to be a prevalent attitude that paying to enter them is wrong - which I could appreciate if you're a staunch anti-capitalist but, by your very nature as a commercial designer, you have to concede that nothing comes for free?
Based on my experience with this project at least, all of the paper has been donated, the printers are doing it in exchange for their logos being shown on the collateral and Adobe are only on there because they're giving away a few copies of CS4. Nobody has paid just to have their logo on there. The only people who aren't doing it for free - and shouldn't be expected to - are the one's organising the contest and launch events, negotiating with the sponsors, emailing me copy amends at all hours and apparently working very hard indeed - so should they just do it for the love of it?
I don't know, it's a strange one. On a personal level it means a lot to be able to say 'my peers have recognised my ability in this field enough to give me this shiny, dust-collecting thing'. A few of my clients have only approached me since winning as it tells them they will get something of a certain quality so, surely, as an investment to secure future work, $100 is pretty reasonable? I'm going to shut up now.
Faction, thank you, I was pleased and sorry you didn't get chosen. As usual on here, thanks to JSK's earlier editing of my post, no-one has read the blog posting and realised that I've already finished the brief and wanted to share where it was at and where it came from and wondered what the reaction was.
End of post, can someone take this down now? :(
- I think it's a healthy dialogue. No reason to take it down. I think most people here can see both sides of it.thoughtandtheory

I think the graphics you've created are meaningless and hollow.
Perfect for an advertising wankfest!
