Perhaps old news, or just plain dull, but Google's smartphone operating system is being re-tasked for use in personal computers. With laptops out-selling desktops and supposedly low-fi netbooks representing a big chunk of those sales, Google looks to have taken a clever path with its hegemony creep.

Well I'm trying Windows 7 right now, and I can't install Windows Live Messenger, but I had no problems installing Chrome and Earth. Something is not right when software that you offer to your own OS can't be installed. Windows Live Writer does work however, but why would you need blogging software when you can do that online in the first place?
I haven't been able to install Adobe Reader either and just right now Office 2007 does not install either. Go figure.

What do you expect? Some installers have a built in OS version checker and won't install or run properly if they don't know the OS. It's not Win 7s fault, the apps need a simple update. Run or install the app with XP compatibility. Running apps in compatability modes have been around since Win 95.

I tried that and it didn't work.

"Net Applications which uses software sensors at 40,000 web sites to measure traffic and record non-sensitive data such as operating system, browser, IP address, domain host, language, screen resolution and referring search engine.
Accordingly it has now revealed that approximately one third of visitors from Google.com to these sites were using an unrecognised OS - an unknown scenario since Net Applications claims its sensors detect virtually every operating system including almost all flavours of Unix and Linux and even Windows 7 pre-beta builds. Even more mysterious is the unrecognised response is because the OS identity was being specifically masked. "

Why in the world would I start using Windows or a PC when my Mac OS never crashes, always works and never gets viruses.

As long as it doesn't have the Google branding I'll use it

I installed Win 7 on another machine and everything installed fine without having to use compatibility mode. I installed Windows Live Messenger, and the computer freezes.

Here's a fix if anyone is testing Win 7. http://dandar3.blogspot.com/2009…
