it's not that simple I'm afraid. not always a colon. i can't be bothered to elaborate on why, you'll just have to look it up.

Is it me or can nobody agree on whether a list should begin with : or ;
I keep getting copy for customers with lists like this:
'...several pairs of socks were missing at the crime scene including; six green ones, 2 blue ones and a lone grey.'
I always change it to:
'...several pairs of socks were missing at the crime scene including: six green ones, 2 blue ones and a lone grey.'
(More often and not they make me change it back!)
Is the ; version outmoded or are both right?
