Worked on a 20inch for 9 months. Ended up with headaches and I strain due to the incredibly poor screen. It's definitely not good enough for a production environment no matter whether it is print, web, 3d tv... whatever. The colour shift between the top and bottom of the screen is atrocious.
On the other hand I now have a 24inch at home and work and I'm pretty happy with those.

Ram is ALWAYS cheaper than from apple. In australia you are looking at an extra $240 for 2x2gb.. but you can get the same amount of kingston ram for $70 elsewhere.
NEVER by from apple what you dont need to.

The reason RAM is often more expensive when specific to the Mac is that Apple chooses to put the highest quality chips in their machines.
You can find chips with IDENTICAL specifications at very different prices, and the reason is the quality of construction. If you want high quality RAM that's built to last, you pay for it. Apple puts them in their machines by default, but it's not a requirement.
- uh kingston is pretty widely regarded as some of the best ram you can getautoflavour
- EXACTLY
and you can get chips that range from $50 - $200 from them, all with the same specsmonospaced - Apple doesn't make the RAM, they just use the expensive ones.monospaced
- pffft.. ram is ram. $70 kingston is no different to apple branded kingston for $240.
autoflavour - you proved my point right theremonospaced

mono that is bogus. apple put off the shelf hardware in their non manufactured parts.. you only need to look back the deathstar hard drives they lugged into all the G4's to see its profit over quality.
those things were SHIT
i had 2 die on me
- It's not bogus. Check it out.monospaced
- I have checked it out, numerous times. I have worked for university labs and we check it regularly.autoflavour

That is like arguing that the cinema displays are anything more than just a samsung in a nicer case.
that is all they are.. they are samsung screens in a pretty case..

Kingston has different "lines" of RAM. ValueRAM memory and HyperX memory. One is more expensive for a reason.
- horton0
yeah i've got the 24"... def go bigger.
+ when you're shopping around for the RAM make sure to get the newer 800mhz stuff. some shops might try to sell you the older 667mhz because its listed for imac 24", but models after spring 08 are compatible with the faster 2GB modules.

what ever bro.. believe what you want, but i can tell you that after many hours of research trying to work out the best solution for rolling over labs, we concluded the new macs are mostly off the shelf hardware.
nothing fancy, nothing over the top. just standard hardware.
often, its actually the cheaper optionsif you want to spend your hard earned money buying things from apple that you could get cheaper elsewhere, dont let me stop you.
- That's my POINT! You can substitute the high quality stuff for off-the-shelve RAM. OR you can go high-quality and pay.monospaced
- No, you are missing the point. the off the shelf stuff is the same. Apple doesnt ahve some special development team looking at ram.
autoflavour - .. looking at ram development. they just use what is most available and effectiveautoflavour

I'm all for buying RAM from a 3rd party.
autoflavor, I think we're on the same side here.
you know that even within the Kingston RAM prices vary depending on quality, right? I'm just saying that this guy can get it cheaper if he wants to, which is exactly what you're saying.
- autoflavour0
yeah i think we are arguing the same arent we..
the price you pay for apple ram you can easily get the same ram cheaper..
dont buy the accessories unless you can only get them from there.
sorry mono.. long day
- it's all good, bromonospaced
- bonus; if you buy the RAM elsewhere you get the stock 2x 1GB modules, which are essentially worthless :Phorton
- try selling on ebay for $5 amoungst the millions of identical itemshorton

be prepared for it not to perform anything like as well as it is speced
