We're all just silly, ridiculous, smelly bags of meat walking around and trying to find ways to busy ourselves before we die.
And that's some paint on a canvas, made by another smelly bag of meat, just like you.

"you'd only need install a camera behind the canvas."
hmmm.

it's true..
what was so genius about pollock's work was that it was complete shit and the pretentious art snobs lapped it up and considered his work to be great art. to truly see the profoundness of his work, you'd only need install a camera behind the canvas.
same for mark rothko, and many others..
not any kid can accomplish that.. so yeah, your boss is stupid.

Thats some Pollock type ish right there.

I had an Art History class where the prof showed a series of about 20 slides in which we were to guess which ones were authentic Pollock's.
There was no way of telling unless you could recognize a specific piece. A couple of the slides were of paintings made by little kids.
Some in the class got upset and felt they needed to defend Pollock. The prof found it ridiculous. Her response was that America was in love with his lifestyle and the art was only interesting 'cause nobody had dome it before.
The emperor wears no clothes.

Some folks quickly dismiss that which they cannot understand. That said, if this were a Monty Python sketch you could've lopped off her head and watched as the wild spurts of blood created countless Pollack-like canvases.
What? Too much?

I had a whole response written out and stupidly refreshed the page.
Anyway, I basically said:I have no problem with someone saying that. Most people don't have the technical knowledge about pieces of art and don't know what kind of effort or thinking goes into pieces. So it makes sense that they would evaluate it purely based on what they see immediately, on the surface, and quickly comment about it.

Jesus Christ, I just showed my co-worker that Google/Pollack image, and he said the exact same fucking thing. "My 2 year old could do that."

"My kid could that."
"Fuck you, I saw your kid's pedestrian attempts at neo expressionism. He's a klutz with a brush, no sense of style, wayyyy too self-referential, and his aesthetic is fucking clown shoes. The next time he signs the canvas with 'i love yoo mommy,' i will piss on every last canvas of his in Soho, so help me god."

The thing is, most people can't tell the difference between mud mixed with dirty snow + bum's urine and the intricately layered gestures of Pollack. It's because they look, but don't really see. Half the time I don't really see, and I'm a completely right-brain designer... so It's no wonder most people have the "my kid could do that response." They lack the tackle for critical assessment of art because they have not trained their eyes to appreciate nuances of color and composition.

WOW, her kid could do that? Must be some sort of child prodigy. Ask her how much her kid's paintings are selling for at auction?
