I don't include banners in my portfolio because I really don't rate them as design.
A lot of interviewers are asking to see banners though. I have made many banners in my time, and once they are done I never want to see them again, so I havn't kept many on file. Should I stick to my guns and leave the banners out?

I don't, but I don't include any websites, either

Often I am asked to show some of my favicons, since that's where so much business is coming from these days, but personally, favicons, aren't really what I'm about...
Banners, depends on how good they are I suppose..

- since that's where all my business is these daysmagnificent_ruin

If they are good, why wouldn't you include them?

I guess I don't want to sell myself as a banner guy
- In my experience, never ever let your employers know what you're fully capable of...neue75_bold

How about keeping them out of your own portfolio site but have a few examples stashed somewhere else like maybe on some other portfolio hosting site (krop creative database maybe). That way, if people ask about them you could just cruise over to those pages......

this is a prime example of why your portfolio should contain a "selection" of work. not an exact sum of cases from each field. put up whats best in quality and what best describes you. Being a slave to some formula where everything you make goes up just bloats it.

If you are doing ads like this http://www.bannerblog.com.au/200… then use show em.

If you want to make any money by doing them, I'd recommend including them. What you do and do not consider 'real design' is pretty irrelevant when getting gigs like that. It's more about understanding an ad message and competancy.

You don't keep the original files for everything you've designed? That's not smart.

i have them in my portfolio...but stashed away under the "view more work" button. i feel that, although sometimes it is important to show this kind of work to potential clients, it does not need to be a focal point.

I'm with lvl_13. I ended up at a great marketing company two years ago and was supposed to be the lead Flash guy for them. About six months later, I was doing banner ads 24/7. Should have never told them I had done banner ads in the past, and just let them hire another designer like they wanted to.
Needless to say, I quit that job.
- Also, just checked your site, nice work. Love how quickly everything loads.thizzbobby
- yeah, that worries meXC01

honestly it depends.. i think including some banners in your portfolio if they are solid show flexibility in your design/animation skill set...
and fuck banners make BUCKS... big time... i think fyoucher1 will agree here.

Banners seem less cheap when paired with the campaign they're advertising. Hopefully you were part of something where the banner was created as part of a bigger picture.
