I have just typed out, in great detail, a problem I was having with a seemingly very simple ajax set up involving dynamically pre-populating a form from details already present in a database, in the style of a 'clone this entry', type action, but for some reason I could see the results of the survey when I went directly to the script and chucked a GET value in, but when I tried to alert( the results back to the browser got nothing.. So of course the problem was that I hadnt formed the open command correctly in my js script, and it wasn't passing the value to the php script properly.
After I had typed all that out, with suitable illustrations of my frustration, I realised the problem, in a similar narrative to the start of this post, and all was well.
In a slightly different universe to this, I did not realise the error in time, and one of you guys has helped me, so vague wobbly thanks across hyperspace for

yeh, thanks lvl, your tip about alerting out exactly what the variable being passed to the function was, was spot on - it just spat out the variable name, to my consternation, but eventual delight, and the problem evaporated before my straining eyes.
Now have on Flying Lotus LA up too loud to celebrate, yeh.

Glad that's cleared up.
