The new account might have started organizing the files, also there might've been some drm issues. Were disappeared files drm'ed? It's good to switch "keep itunes folder organized" off when pointing to an existing and used library.
I would go with this to a mac nerd forum, this one is for luddites.I actually did some research earlier today on iTunes library sharing. Normally I'd point her account to my folder, uncheck "keep organized" and import all music in place. It would miss covers, but would be fairly complete. However, every new song would have to be imported twice, on each account.
I found this today, haven't tried yet:

- logged into the other account
- pointed itunes to the itunes music folder on external harddrive
- no files did show up
- copied my own library file in the itunes folder of the other account, files showed up, but some had immediatley the questionmark
- connected her iphone, sync some files
- the realized, that quite a few files are "physically" gone, not in my itunes folder, not in the other accounts itunes folder, not on the external harddrive
:-(- I take it you've viewed hidden files?Jnr_Madison
- i browsed through the hardrive with terminal... couldn't spot any hidden files. drives me nuts.rockdog

eh? are you saying copied over the itunes library (itdb) file?
- monospaced0
Your problem is that you copied the library file instead of the music itself, tricking iTunes into not having any music. "Her" music should still be on "her" external HD.

has the available space reported for either drive changed?

Well, you spelled "drive" with a "b." That'll fuck your shit up. Hers too, from the sound of it.

jesus, i just lost 20 gig of music. i was trying to connect the music on an external drive, to a second account on my macbook, so she could sync her iphone, and have the music too. after pointing itunes to the library an copying the itunes library to the account, there all of a sudden, those questionmarks, for missing files. 20 gig are gone, they are not on the external dribe anymore. jesus, what the fuck happened?
