Who's your money on? Can Fed get to 14 in Oz? Is Murray really the prime contender? Will Nadal live up to his no.1 ranking?
Looking at the play and draw, I'm thinking the Djoker has a good chance... Even though I'm pulling for Fed.

Anybody can win this thing for me... except for Federer and Nadal.
Can't stand those two idiots.Don't root for Murray, but him winning it would be refreshing for tennis though.
- Idiots?letters2
- yeah. I call people I don't like idiots.

Fed achieved his goal at the Australian Open 2 years ago. Judging by his emotional victory speech, I would say he is less hungry for it now. Rafa has unfinished biz here, I think.

Yeah, Rafa needs this one at this stage to stay on top for a good bit longer. But I definitely see that Djokovic and Murray can both take Nadal down on the hard surface. Fed seems like the old man now by comparrison, but there's no doubt that he can still win slams.
- Fed has ticked the box on this one. I’d be surprised to se him in the final.MrOneHundred
- really? My only skepticism for his presence is his draw. he's on a tough side.letters2
- Well, maybe not surprised, but, you know...MrOneHundred

Nadal. The Aussie Open always gets me excited for another tennis season, but I have to wait a few more months as it's freezing outsdie, haha.

Just to make my pick official;
Nadal wins in a Nadal - Djokovic final.
- Right or wrong, that matchup would make for an awesome 09 final :)BuddhaHat
- A sweaty affair, no doubt.MrOneHundred

I know everyone rules out Roddick, but new coach, fewer pounds and seriously good play says he might advance further than initially thought. A convservative bet says Djokovic - Murray final or Djokovic - Nadal final...

Fernando Gonzalez is my favorite

Gonzalez is playing well, but at best he's going to come up against Nadal and the likely outcome is that he loses well. I'd give him a small margin of success, but that's completely based upon Nadal not having his headband straight or something.

Murray out. Monfils out. Verdasco in. Tsonga in. Nadal steamrolling.
The Djoker - Roddick match should be great. Last year it would easily be Djokovic, but I'd say Andy has a decent chance in his new form.

It's all about the redemption of Jelena Dokic

jesus, if federer plays the next two matches like he did today, I don't there is anyone who can stop him

Its true, Federer was in amazing form yesterday. But there has to consideration for the fact that his opponent was in particularly poor form Del Potro can do better.
Federer - Roddick on that side next.
Should be an impressive match with the level of play from both of them.On the other side, my money is on Nadal and Verdasco to advance (given that verdasco is playing in the heat today against Tsonga) - which if it happens will be a great spanish match.

roddick can never beat federer in a grand slam no matter how much he wants to. although i hope he does.

Go Federer! did you see yesterday's game against Del Potro?
He's still fighting to be #1!

I'm with you emu, Fed has the upper hand, especially mentally, against Roddick. However, if ever Roddick had a chance its when Fed is showing some vulnerability and Roddick has gotten back into great form.
