Does anyone have any experience passing information from a database to a flash site using xml? I'm looking for some articles or any help someone might have.
Thanks!

database to some sort of server language (ie. PHP... ASP... CF..etc...) that can build the XML for you... then flash can read it to yo value object

this looks like it should work...
basically you'll just call a php script from flash. the php then talks to the db, gets the info it needs, formats it into xml, and returns that to flash...
flash > php
php > mysql
mysql > php > xml
xml > flashjust do it step by step.

and try to use AS3... so much nicer =)
... well for me at least.

might want to look at something like amfphp, which can deliver data to flash natively rather than having to build xml to just have to then parse it into something else on the other end

just create a php file that gives xml on output (xml generated on the fly), then just type in flash name of php file and you are done;
kirupa's tutorials are quite good.

When I get into work I'll email the OP an example if you want. Post back if it's worth my while.

Hey Rounce, if you could do that it would help so much! Thanks

although it will be more work, learning each step, as pointed out by cuke, will be the best way. There is tons of info on reading and writing xml with php, plus great built in functions that do most of the work (like domDocument()). When it's all said and done you'll have tons more ways to use xml since you went the hard way.
However, if you are unfamiliar with PHP/Mysql this will probably be pretty tough to do(but well worth it).

I've used FluorineFx in the past with .NET with great results. It's similar to AMFPHP. It's a lot faster and easier than using XML.

I wanted to throw this question out there as I have done some playing around with the concepts that Kirupa used in it's tut, but I had mixed results so I was more curious about other peoples solutions to this challenge.
Thanks for all the input...
