.net? on mac? Just install xp in boot camp or parallels. Mamp is good for php
- acescence0
yes, your mac most certainly has php installed on it...

to get PHP working on mac? just download MAMP http://www.mamp.info/en/index.ph… and you're basically done. it has php, apache, and MySQL in one package.

Here's the real story.
I personally own a PC desktop, have done for years. I use a MacBook Pro laptop for work.
My PC rcently got PWND by a virus. Although it has beasty-good hardware, high-spec and all, my PC has been terribly unrelaible - very "delicate"... I have to be super carely about updates, installing new stuff etc. Most new stuff makes it fall over. It's a pain in the ass.
So, I was thinking, yeah, I'm tired of this, time to get me and iMac. Ditch PCs / Windows altogether...
...but can I still develop my site (in ASP)?
...starts thread on QBN.
So far my conclusion is... PHP is ore flexible corss-platform, but neither my Mac laptop or current flaey PC support is natively.
If I did want to make the full-time switch to Apple - I thought that'd serve up PHP no trouble, but it seems I need to mess with settings to get this working.
I'm bored of this now. I just want to get things moving. Any advice?

Ok, getting all muddled up in this now... how do I (easily) tell my Mac Apache to serve up php ?? :(

Yes you can. You need Mono, as previously mentioned. http://mono-project.com/Main_Pag…

...true. I used it many many years ago, and I'm not a developer, so once I'd started I stuck with what I knew. I haven't updated the site in years too... so what language *should* I be using?

if you're gonna use ASP, don't do it on a Mac =) switch to Ruby...

Thanks for the input

- That could take a while to convert... but if you're going to do it eventually you may as well do it now.pylon
- Yeah :(thismanslife
- nice photos too!Samush

How big is the site? Conversion won't take long but QC afterwards will take a while. If it's just includes and such you'll have no problems, you could do a find/replace in DW/coda for some of the stuff.
- Quality control?thismanslife
- Yah, broken links, missing includes, images, etc, etc.

Ok - things don't look good.
Any advice converting ASP to PHP??
All I need is actually pretty basic: Include files and if/else statements. S'bout it.

Hey, thanks rson, but statement just put me off - from the apache-asp site:
"The installation process for Apache::ASP is geared towards those with experience with Perl, Apache, and unix systems. For those without this experience, please understand that the learning curve can be significant. "

- Yah, I'd say that's a warning sign...pylon

i was under the impression that ASP only works under Windows IIS servers, which is why it sucks.
- that's only part of the reasonstyleplus

Or maybe dotnet nuke? It's open-source maybe there's a port for OSX? They're fundamentally different platforms though, so it's likely you won't be able to without some real tweaking.
