Wondering what everyone considers a good day rate / hour rate for midweight to senior graphic design in London?
I have about 5.5 years experience at a couple of good, known agencies... any thoughts?

S**t babaganush if that's the case my rate is way too low.
- If you've good agency experience, up it to 250-300! People will pay if you're good :)babaganush

5.5 years good experience I would say anywhere from £200 to £300 a day.

Did some freelance last year and was advised to charge 175 - 200.
I have 4.5yrs exp- I guess it depends on scope of skills, experience, jobs worked on...babaganush
- Also what the client budget is too.MissB

I used to charge 250 quid per day, that was for middlewight, not senior level.

200-300 a day is not that much. There are roughly 2000 working hours in a year. Take your proposed hourly rate and times it by 1000. You will be doing well to work half the year freelance.
So if you are charging £25 an hour for a nine hour day that is £225... but wait - that gives you 25k a year. Not exactly a senior salary. As a senior designer, I would push for no less than £300 a day.
- maths FAIL: £225/day * 5 days a week * 4 weeks a month * 12 months a year = £54k (before tax)Nightshade
- if you only work half the year, you need to get more work!Nightshade
- I think his point being. The risk of not working,no holiday is what makes the rates what they are
babaganush - i see that but think you can expect to work more than half the year if you know what you're doing.Nightshade
- Yes, I agree my estimate of 6 months is low. However this is a common formula amongst freelancers (to times your hour by 1000) as it roughly factors in equipment, training, software, promotion etc. I have found it to be a great tool when haggling rates on the spot. BTW thanks for the math tip nightshade, but there are 52 weeks in the year (not 48 used in your formula).spacerabbits

If you're working in editorial you'd be lucky to get £200 a day at the moment!

My boss baulks at £25 an hour for freelancers and then pisses and moans when they churn out shit work. I then have to redo the entire project... we're in Brighton.
- Sorry about the unrelated post. My bad. Need to vent. *breathes into bag*MSL
