Vague title, specific question. Lets say I've got text on a website. I want words in that text to be "callouts", say they're bold and red, controlled by a style sheet. When the user rolls over them, I want a small window / tool tip to fade in where the mouse is with a bit of text and maybe a small image, explaining the word. Think "interactive glossary".
My question is, what goes into developing this? Is it javascript / jquery / black magic? What is the dev time? Is anyone able to spit this kind of functionality out in their sleep?

Tool tips are fairly simple to do with CSS, but if want them to fade in and out, look to JQuery. Maybe Janne can enlighten you.

There's a bunch of stuff there. It's pretty easy to implement.

I had no idea you could do that with CSS. The fading is not so important to be honest.
And I did google it but I figured I'd get some human insight on the topic, from people who've probably executed it before. Google is great but you can come across a lot of shit that is too complex for what you're looking for :)

yeah with css tooltips you can roll it out no problem then you can jazz it up with a bit of jquery.
shouldn't take very long and its good to learn.
