It's not only the wage, rough calculation tells me it's only about a million a year in savings - it won't even cover the move to Poland. It must be some corporate tax breaks as well.
Ireland still has incredibly low corporate tax (12.5%) and very high tax-free personal income allowance (€18300/year for employed, half of that for self-employed). On the other hand, Irish minimum is very high, €1400/mo is good money ie. in Spain, even in biggest cities.
Problem is, recent tax rises (petrol, income, wine, cigs, vat) which are meant to mend the budget will only make the hole bigger. It's the most idiotic move of this government. When you want to collect more taxes, you need to lower them. This is how Ireland got rich in the first place. This paradox might be to hard to grasp for them I'm afraid.
Also, UK lowering their VAT at the same time plus cheap Sterling will be disastrous for Irish economy, but that's tax/currency competition at work and it's good in a bigger picture.

That the thing raf, we used to have a low mimimum wage so employing people for 'unskilled' job was cheap, once the economy took off this wage increased so dell in wanting to keep costs down relocate to a country with a lower minimum wage but once that countries economy grows they'll be looking for the next low cost country to set up production.

haha yeah ian the irish can no longer portrait themselves as the blacks of europe.
- I will continue to do so, only so that I can get some sort of street cred out of my relatives.TheBlueOne

It is to be noted, Irish minimum wage is €1400/month after taxes. Polish minimum wage is about €220/month.
They'll pay production line employees 1/4 Irish minimum wage or less.

they were one of the few electronics manufacturers that stuck with high cost locations for manufacturing.
it says something about the company but the current times have stretched them too far.
They are still keeping quite a lot of jobs here.

Well there were lots of incentives to set up in Ireland in the 90's, mong them tax breaks and cheap labour. The tax breaks are now finished and were one of the more expensive countries to live in so thats why they're fucking off to a country that can offer what Ireland did a few years ago.
Its happened a lot as the tax breaks dried up for large multinationals they moved on to other countries that could offer lower production costs. And in a few years it'll happen in Poland, then China etc etc etc.
