ok, i needed your attention.
I found a still of a movie called Klimt, which is not an accident as it's actually trying to precisely portray the life of an artist with a similar name: Klimt. Gustav Klimt.
Now, this seemed interesting to me. I greatly admire this painter living in late 19th century Vienna.
However,
it seemed wise to me to go ahead and visit IMDB dot com first, to learn about the movie and read some reviews. Now the first review I found there, doesn't seem to be overly positive:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0417…I would like to ask you:
Have you seen this movie?
Did you know about the artist before?
&
How does the movie represent the artist?
&
Is it a pleasure to look at or a total waste like MikeJ's threads?

I saw a good documentation on arte a couple of months ago, but I am not sure If it was just a docu about Klimt or generally about cubism.
- klimt in a cubism documentary?uan
- our cable co. kicked ARTE out. :(janne76
- yeah some of his works have a cubistic touch, but mainly he is an art nouveau artist.moamoa

- klimt+cubism didn't match, because I thought they didn't overlap chronologically, but they do :)uan

I got the dvd, because the cover said John Malkovich plays Klimt.
I didn't specially like it, it's more about the character than his art, and his art is way better than the movie.

Have you seen this movie?
Yes I saw this movie.Did you know about the artist before?
Yes, I know of Klimt and his work in great detail. How does the movie represent the artist?
The movie represents the artist in a very negative way. He is portrayed as an egotistical manic that has no respect for anybody except himself. Klimt was a womanizer and they certainly made that well known. Malkovich did a great job all the way around and was believable as the character. However my wife, who is fond of Klimt's work nor I liked the film. I think there is a right and wrong way to portray and artist's life. Pollock and Lust for life do a fantastic job of displaying the lives of two troubled artists with similar psychological problems. Frida in my mind did an excellent job showing the womanizing antics of Diego Rivera and his talented wife Frida Kahlo.
In the end if you are looking for a movie that truly 100% concentrates on an artist's life and not their work, this is the movie for you. The closest to this style is Immortal beloved, lovely movie but I preferred watching Mozart go mad with his work in Amadeus.
Thanks,
