Saw it last night, was just ok. I thought Sin City was bloody fucking (pun fully intended) amazing. Whereas, The Spirit seemed a distant 2nd place. Also, it was a PG13 vs a very hard R for SinCity or 300. Miller just isnt meant to make to make movies for kids.
Eva Mendes MADE this movie. So So great and so so beautiful. Samuel L and Scarlett were also very good, but the rest were a bit of a snoozer.
The story itself never really materialized, particularly for someone who never followed the graph novels.
I dunno, maybe Im just a crotchety old man and a hard sell, but I just thought this tried really hard to bite the cinematic style of Sin City, but hardly compared. Had Sin City never been made, maybe this would have been more impressive, but the it just set such a high standard, The Spirit couldn't really compare.

got 0/4 stars in my neighborhood. 14% at rotten tomatoes has me pretty scared off.

- airey0

it looked pretty lame outside the art direction

i would have to say that any comic to film that no one truly reads the book will fail in the box office...anything too over the top that has been done before as well... who wants to see a second version of the first that really doesnt need another of the same...

Zack and Miri was the only thing i saw this year - fucking loved it. Wait, wasn't the Wank Night out too? Never saw it.

downloading comics now. i also didn't know how long ago this was written. that would explain why it didn't look too good. thanks e.

yeah... saw it last night. had to go see another movie just to redeem my "day at the movies"
talked about it over burger afterwords and could not really pin point what i didn't like about it other then the dialogue was really bad and the graphic treatment was lame after seeing sin city do it so well.
- oh and the lead actor bugged the shit out of me for some reason.applepirate

has there ever been a good comic-based movie?
- Yes, many. Not all involve superheroes actually.harlequino

thinking further on this movie...save your money, absolutely not worth the time or money. Rewatch sin city.

Im sick of seeing Samuel L Jackson. ill be skipping this one..

hmm, I reckon every single thing bar the art direction on Sin City is fucking woeful so this doesn't really perk me up much. Will avoid.

Think I'm gonna avoid this. I'm sure there's more to it, but my gut tells me that Frank Miller jizzed his pants watching Robert Rodriguez film "Sin City" with all the green screen and gadgets and then thought "Doesn't look so hard."
I read somewhere that a producer on the picture was overheard saying "Yeah, Frank was often too busy drawing in his damn notebook to work with the actors to tell them what he wanted."
Ouch.- could go either way. he could have been optioned to do it by the producers and then they had second thoughts7point34
- On that note, I've also heard that it's so unintentionally bad and campy, that it could wind up having a big cult following later.harlequino
