This may be a little on the controversial side but I don't think the introduction of Robin would be the end of the world. They'd have to do it in the style of the Robin in Dark Knight Returns though, showing Batman moving ever closer to the edge in his methods, where he shows a real dis-regard for the safety of his side-kick in order to do what he feels he's got to do.
But a big no to that LaBeouf character. Too old and more importantly too shit in everything he's done. It's got to be someone younger to make the pairing that little bit more uncomfortable just like in the book.

Considering that all official word says Nolan and Bale haven't even agreed to do another film, and there is no story, script, or character selection, this is all a bit slim.

it's a story about man who likes to dress up as a fucking bat.
a boy who dresses up as a robin hardly adds that much to the campness factor.
